Obituary
W. B. "BART" ANDREWS, 80, of Huntington, WV, died Wednesday November 16, 2016 at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral service will be conducted 2:00 PM Sunday November 20, 2016 at Fifth Ave. Baptist Church, with Rev. Eric Porterfield officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. Bart was born in Huntington on December 2 1935, son of William Bearss Andrews and Mary Rose Vickers Andrews. His parents divorced while he was a baby and he was raised by his maternal grandparents, Arsella and Walter J. Vickers. After graduating from Huntington High School, he majored in Business Management at Marshall University, receiving a B.S. degree in 1958. He had also completed the ROTC training program and was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Army, going through officer's basic training at Ft. Still, OK and Ft. Knox, KY. Bart began his business career as a salesman for National Gypsum Company, resigning in 1961 to open Danco, Inc., a lumber and building materials company, for Daniel Wagoner. He had met Mr. Wagoner when calling on him as a salesman for National Gypsum. During its thirty-one years (1961-1992) of operation, Bart advanced from Manager to President and General Manager and eventually, part-owner. For years Bart was active in organizations connected with the building business. He is a life director of the Tri-State Homebuilders Association, a past state president and director of the West Virginia Builders Supply Association and a past president of Tri-State Lumber Dealers Association. He has also been active in several civic and other organizations over the years, serving as a past director of the Tri-State Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, and WPBY public television. He is a member of the Fifth Avenue Baptist Church. During this time he has also actively supported many Marshall University academic and sports programs. He is past president of the Big Green Foundation, a director of the Marshall University Foundation, and holds a life membership in the MU Alumni Association. He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Carrie Lou Andrews, stepfather, C.A. Beatty and a stepsister, Patricia Goode and her husband Richard. Bart married the former Doris Bailey in 1960 and their family soon grew to include Scott, born in 1962, and his wife Sondra of Huntington, followed by another son, Clark, in 1964, of Columbus, OH, then twin daughters, Paige and Kristin, born in 1968, Paige's husband Mark Knapp of Rocky River, OH and Kristin's husband Chad Ferrell of Lavalette, one grandson, Zachary Andrews, a half-brother, William David Andrews and wife Debby of Newry, MA, and a cousin Jeannie Weston and husband Mike of Decatur, GA Since retiring from Danco in 1992, Bart and Doris have spent several months each year traveling in their motor home, the fall travels revolving around the Marshall University football schedule.
