Don was born July 31, 1946 in Huntington, WV a son of the late Lawrence Everett and Faye McFann Kerns. He was a graduate of Barboursville High School and received his Master's Degree from Marshall University. He was a retired teacher from the Cabell County Board of Education, with 30 years of service, a member of the Oak Hill UBI Church and a Master Mason of the Hampton Masonic Lodge # 235 F. and A.M. Survivors include his wife of 44 years whom he married on August 12, 1972, Rocolyn Ventry Kerns, two daughters and sons-in-law, Kerri and Scott Burns and Jeanna and Gregg Hicks all of Lesage, WV, 5 grandchildren, Cory Edward Hicks of Memphis, TN, Shelbie Taylor Jeffrey, Justin Bailey VanMeter, Julia Payton Hicks, and Katelyn Marie Burns all of Lesage, his best friend Andy Turman of Huntington. The family would like to thank Donna Brock of Crosslanes, WV for all her loving care and thank Ron Brownfield, DO for the excellent medical care and friendship he gave over the years. He was loved dearly and will be terribly missed by his family and those privileged to be his friends. He touched many lives during his three decades of teaching, and he received an enormous amount of enjoyment from his students in return. He often talked about former students and staff, and reminisced with funny stories and memories. He loved his family beyond measure. He was a one of a kind man with a character and sense of humor like no other. But most importantly he was a Christian, and with that he left us a blessed assurance that we will see him again soon. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Saturday November 26, 2016 and after 1:00 PM Sunday at Chapman's Mortuary.
