Carl Dennis VanWay
(October 12, 1924 - January 1, 2010)



Carl Dennis VanWay, 85, of Huntington, passed away Friday January 1, 2010, in West Marion Community Hospital, Ocala, Florida. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm Friday at the Reger Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Bowen Cemetery, Wayne County, WV. He was born October 12, 1924, in Huntington, WV a son of the late Jesse Dennis and Bessie L. Gibson VanWay. Carl was a Veteran of the US Army having served during WWII. He drove every state as a photographer for Fontaine Studios and was a devoted driver for Yellow Cab of Huntington for many years until 2009. He was also a member of the Mormon Church. Survivors include his wife of 60 years Era Lou Graybeal VanWay; five children and their spouses Brenda (Jim) Gibson, Carl VanWay, Jr., Deborah (Floyd) Culwell, Gail (Rick) Conner and Claude VanWay; and a grandson they raised as a son Carl Childers; fourteen grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; three sisters Mildred Wright, Maxine Adkins and Helen Estep; many nieces, nephews and friends; Brothers Jay Sewell and June Curran and Son Mike McDonald and Daughter Elanda VanWay. Friends may call from 6 to 8 pm Thursday at the Reger Funeral Home. American Legion Post 93 of Kenova will conduct military graveside rites. If someone was hungry he fed them, if someone was cold he clothed them, if someone needed a place to stay, he gave them a home.
