Harry Merrit, Jr.
October 14, 1927 - January 2, 2009



 


  Harry Merritt, Jr., 81, of Lesage, WV, husband of Annetta Smith Merritt, went home to be with Jesus, friends and loved ones Friday, January 2, 2009, in Saint Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted 12:30 pm Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington, with Pastor Doug Spurlock officiating. Burial will follow in Greenbottom Memorial Park. He was born October 14, 1927, in Cabell County, WV, a son of the late Harry J. Merritt, Sr., and Carrie Jeffers Merritt. His first wife, Eleanor Merritt, three sisters and three brothers, also preceded him in death. He was a US Army veteran, retired from Riviera Golf/Country Club as a groundskeeper, was Baptist by faith, and helped at several other golf courses in the area. Additional survivors include, two step-daughters, Rayetta Baumgardner of Lesage, Amy Beasley and her husband, Chris of Dundee, FL; a step-son and his wife, Roy and Lori Stevens of South Point, OH; four grandchildren, Michael Baumgardner, Matthew Baumgardner, Amanda Scarberry-Stevens and Zander Walton; his dog Stetson; several nieces and nephews and a very special niece, Carrie Merritt. Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
