James Edward O'Brian
April 18, 1941 - January 31, 2009


James Edward O'Brian, 67, of Huntington, passed away Saturday January 31, 2009 in St. Mary's Medical Center. Graveside services will be conducted 12:00 PM Thursday, February 5, 2009 at
Forest Memorial Park Mausoleum, Milton, with Pastor Brady K. Lipscomb officiating. Burial with Military Rites conducted by American Legion Post 93 Veterans Honor Guard will follow in Forest Memorial Park. He was born April 18, 1941 in Zanesville, OH, a son of the late Tease Jack and Virginia B. Welch O'Brian. Two brothers, Jack Harlowe and Joseph Harlow, and a sister-in-law, Betty Harlow also preceded him in death. James was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served with the Green Bret Special Forces during the Viet Nam Era. He was retired from the Marshall University Police Force, was currently working for Marshalls Department Store, and was a member of American Legion Post 93, Kenova, WV. He enjoyed bowling in the American Legion Bowling League. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Karen Spurlock O'Brian of Huntington; a daughter and son-in-law, Missy and John Thornburg of Huntington; two sons, Michael O'Brian of St. Louis, MO., and Chris O'Brian and fianc'e Angie Ronk both of Huntington; six grandchildren, Tyler and Zachary Thornburg, Christian Ronk, Brenna O'Brian, Carmen O'Brian, and Alexis Pearce; and a sister, Frances Gould of Huntington. Friends may call 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday February 4, 2009 at Chapman's Mortuary and Thursday morning from 10:30-11:30 AM after which the procession will leave for the cemetery.
