Dorothy A. Adkins, 84, of Huntington, WV., died Wednesday May 20, 2009 in St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral service will be conducted 11:00 AM Saturday May 23, 2009 at River Cities Community Church with Pastor Dr. Larry Greene officiating. Burial will be in Bowen Cemetery. Dorothy was born September 20, 1924 in Barboursville, WV., a daughter of the late Hallie & Gardie Tassen Thomas. She was a charter member of the River Cities Community Church for over 39 years and will be sadly missed by her church family. She was preceded in death by her husband Luther Leon Adkins, her stepmother Rena Tassen, 2 sisters, 1 brother, & a special niece Lois McKee. Survivors include her beloved son; Danny E. Adkins of Huntington, loving sister; Peggy Wade of Sunrise, Fl., nephews & their wife's; Harold & Marnie Bare, Stan & Barbara Bare, Bill & Dottie Bare. The family would like to thank Pastor Dr. Larry Greene & wife Mary, Dr. Mike Gibbs, Rick Yocke, Maxine Adkins & Diane Lawhorn for all their additional help. In lieu of flowers the family request donations to the River Cities Community Church. Friends may call at Chapman's Mortuary Huntington from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Friday May 22, 2009.
