Karl Richard Gillette
(June 29, 1940 - October 29, 2010)



Karl Richard Gillette, 70, of Huntington, WV, surrounded by his beloved family on Friday October 29, 2010, was carried by angels into the arms of his Lord and Savior, where he was freed from his long battle with Alzheimer's. Karl was born in Huntington, WV on June 29, 1940, son of the late Gertrude Stanley. He graduated from Marshall University with a BS degree. He loved music and for years played alto saxophone with the "Blue Notes". He was employed at Special Metals for 32 years where he was a senior chemist. Karl loved the game of basketball. He refereed both high school and college ball for 16 years with special friends Lou Peake and Kevin Anderson. Karl is survived by his loving wife Kathy of 32 years, a son Todd (Adrienne), daughter Emily Thacker, grandchildren Zachary Gillette, Katie Beth Thacker and Alexis Church; sister-in-law, Brenda Comer, nephews Brad Comer (Lizz), Brian Comer and mother-in-law Mary Catherine Watson. His father-in-law Allen Watson preceded him in death. The family wishes to thank the Rivers Bend Health Care staff and the nursing staff at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House for their kindness and care. Friends may call Sunday October 31, 2010 at Chapman's Mortuary Huntington from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. The service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 PM Monday November 1, 2010 at Chapman's Mortuary with Jim Franklin officiating. Burial will follow at Woodmere Memorial Park. In Karl's memory donations can be made to the Emogene Dolen Jones Hospice House, 3100 Staunton Rd., Huntington, WV, 25702.
