Obituary



Hester Irene Crabtree, 85 of Huntington, WV passed away Monday, January 8, 2018 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Saturday, January 13 at Prince of Peace Freewill Baptist Church, by Pastor Phillip Warren and Pastor Ernest Crabtree. Burial will follow in Crabtree Cemetery, Wayne County. Hester was born April 8, 1932 in Huntington, WV, a daughter of the late Frank and Sarah Ward Canterbury. She was also preceded in death by her husband Carl Crabtree, Jr., in 1998, three infants: Sharon Kay Crabtree, Swonda Irene Crabtree, Harold Lee Crabtree, Son Earl Crabtree, infant granddaughter, Emily Dawn Crabtree, grandson, Brandon Jenkins, two brothers, Benjamin Canterbury and Ernest Canterbury and four sisters: Mary Brewster, Melvina McCloud, Roxie Romine and Stella Perry. She was a homemaker and a member of Prince of Peace Freewill Baptist Church. Those that survive her include five sons and their spouses: Cecil Frank (Linda) Crabtree of Huntington, Ernest (Angela) Crabtree of Huntington, Carl Crabtree, Jr., of Huntington, Fred Crabtree of Huntington, and Raymond Crabtree of Tallahassee, FL; six grandchildren: Sharon Kay Howard, Jason (Alisha) Crabtree, Jessica Howard (Richard), Stephanie Hughes (Jonathon), Breanna Nichole Crabtree, and Ernest Lee Crabtree, Jr., “E.J.” Eight great-grandchildren: Michael Howard, Sarah Howard, Lauren Crabtree, Linsey Crabtree, Gauge Crabtree, Kaden Jenkins, Ryan Hughes and Kennedy Hughes. In addition, she is survived by several nieces and nephews, and a very special person who seemed like a granddaughter, Tammy Kimble. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until service time at 1:00 PM at Prince of Peace Freewill Baptist Church.
