Obituary

Dr. Dan W Henderson PhD was born in Huntington, WV on 18 October 1948 and raised in his grandfather’s log cabin in the Appalachian Mountains. He moved to the city to attend school, playing junior high and high school football and running track. He received a BA and 2 MA’s as a graduate of Marshall University and his PhD in Integrated Counseling/Psychology/Theology from C B College and Seminary. Dr. Dan was a 100% disabled Vietnam Air Force Veteran who served his country from 1967-1971, and was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal. During his professional career, he was a teacher for over 40 years, teaching at the elementary, junior high, and high school levels, as well as 3 colleges and 2 universities. While teaching, he also coached junior high wrestling and track. He was also a Psychotherapist who had a private practice in mental and emotional health, and worked in 5 hospitals with psychiatric patients. In addition to teaching and psychotherapy, he was a professional radio announcer (DJ), actor (We Are Marshall), and author (I, the Antichrist), with two children’s books currently being published. More importantly than all his earthly successes, was his personal relationship with God through Jesus. On the evening of 16 March 2018, Dr. Dan entered into eternal peace with his Creator after a long battle with Agent Orange poisoning. He was welcomed to heaven by his mother whom he loved dearly, Laura Treavel Mounts Henderson. He was also preceded in death by his father, Van Buren Henderson, two siblings, Jerry and Judy Henderson, his mother-in-law, Debra Sowards Brewer, and many other friends and family members. He leaves behind his loving wife, Mrs. Leigh-Ann Brewer-Henderson who adored him and so often referred to him as “Sassy”. Also remaining, are his brother, Van Dwight Henderson (Nancy) of Sacramento, California, his two nephews Lee (Jill) Henderson and Stephan Henderson of California, his dear aunts Rosalee, Betty, Erna, and Elsie, and his father-in-law, Ronald D Brewer (Beverly) of Hurricane, WV, along with many other family members and friends from all over the world, including France (Bergman). Dr. Henderson believed some very simple truths that he stood firm on while living on this earth, “You either believe God is in charge or you don’t;” “Don’t live in fear;” and “Do the right thing because it’s the right thing to do.” Dr. Henderson was truly a man of God who lived his life trying to do the right thing for all those he encountered. He knew no strangers and saw good in many whom the world shunned. His last request would be for everyone to accept Jesus and have a relationship with God through Him. The arrangements for Dr. Dan will be at Reger Funeral Home. The viewing will be on March 22, 2018 from 6-8 pm and funeral on March 23, 2018 at 11:00 am with the Reverend Art Hage presiding. Graveside services will be held following the funeral at White Chapel Memorial Gardens.
