Obituary

John F. Pritchard (3/5/36). Died March 8, 2018 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington. He was the son of John and Barbara Pritchard. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Donalda Jean and his brother James Robert. After graduating from Huntington High he managed to find several years of fun and games on the campuses of Ohio University and the University of Kentucky. Ignoring his business major he appeared in and directed several university plays. Two years in the Army followed and in addition to his duties he worked with the Fort Knox Little Theatre acting, directing and producing shows there. After his discharged he hightailed it to New York and appeared in several off Broadway shows. But soon the call of the hills brought him back to Virginia and while there he became one of the founding fathers of what would become the dinner theatre fad of the sixties and seventies. He owned, produced, acted and directed in theatres up and down the east coast. Along the line he appeared with or directed such faded and long forgotten “stars” as Tom Ewell, Forrest Tucker, Tab Hunter, Imogene Coca and Phyllis Diller. There will be no service and he requests that you have a drink and contribute to your favorite charity. John wrote his obituary years before his death. AT his request, it has been printed just as he wrote it.
