Dale Patrick Riley, 82 of Huntington, WV went home to be with his Lord Wednesday, March 28. Dale was born September 8, 1935 in Barboursville, WV, son of the late Patrick Joseph and Ruby Alice Sawyer Riley. He had a Master’s Degree in Music Education from Marshall University, where he met the love of his life, pianist, Nancy Barbour. He directed the Hurricane High School band for 17 years, and Vinson High School band for 9 years; also Hannon, Rock Hill, and Buffalo-Wayne high schools. He was a judge in WV, KY, and VA band competitions, state championships, and state ratings. Dale played with the West Virginia Symphony, was a guest trumpet soloist with the Roanoke Symphony, and was interim assistant band director and applied trumpet instructor at Marshall University. Dale was the former minister of music at Baptist Temple in Huntington for 26 years, and minister of music at First Baptist of Hurricane for 22 years. He was the owner of Riley's Music Shoppe. He was a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church in Chesapeake, Ohio. Surviving him are his loving wife of 57 years, Nancy Barbour Riley, three sons: Jeffrey Dale (Lisa) Riley of Huntington, Phillip Alan (Teresa) Riley of Huntington, Stephen Todd (Emily) Riley of Scott Depot, one daughter Stephanie Ann Riley of Frederick, MD; 4 grandchildren Andrew Riley, Meg Riley, Allison Riley and Natalie Riley, one sister Peggy Sue Sherman of College Station, TX, as well as a host of family, friends, former students and church family. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Reger Funeral Home by Rev. Andy Magnusson; burial will follow at Woodmere Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM Monday, April 2, 2018 at Reger Funeral Home.
