Obituary

Ruth Martin
(August 9, 1932 - February 18, 2014)



Ruth Martin, 81, of Chesapeake, Ohio, passed away Feb. 18, 2014 at Cornerstone Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Rev. Gordon Rutherford and Rev. Doug Spurlock. Burial will be in Greenbottom Memorial Park. She was born August 9, 1932, in Lowmansville, KY, a daughter of the late Jonah and Virgie Young Skaggs. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil E. Martin; one great-grandson, Landon VonDuben; and two stepsons, Thurman and Kelsey Ramey. She was a member of Olive Missionary Baptist Church, where she was known as one of the Golden Girls, enjoyed going to the annual Skaggs-Young reunions enjoyed her hobbies, sewing, quilting and fishing, and she also dearly loved her family. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Larry Cassity of Lesage and Evie and Jim Whaley of Chesapeake, Ohio; one stepson, Cliff Ramey of Lakeside, CA; one sister and brother-in-law, Pauline and Quinton Lester of Lowmansville, KY; brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Juanita Skaggs of Lowmansville, KY; five grandchildren, Heather Felix of Culloden, WV, Tiffany Felix and Mike of Lesage, Nathaniel Felix of Manhatten, KS, Scott and Cindy Cassity of Knoxville, TN, and Jackie and Joe Frasure of LaPort, TX; and seven great-grandchildren, Caroline, Reid, Laykin, Nevaeh, Kendra, A.J. and Brandon. The family would like to thank the staff of Cornerstone Hospital and St Mary's Medical Center for their loving care and compassion during their mother's illness, especially Dr. Sigurdarson. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville.
