Obituary

Mary Jarrell Justice
(February 27, 1920 - December 13, 2016)



Mary Jarrell Justice, 96, of Huntington, formerly of Logan, WV, died in Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington on December 13, 2016. Mary was born February 27, 1920 to Christopher Columbus and Celia Ann Staten Jarrell in Wayne, West Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George Edward of 64 years in 2004, her daughter Peggy Ross in 1997, sisters Lucinda Evans, Martha Napier, and brothers, William, Jace, Lee and John. She is survived by brothers Delbert (Dot) and Joe (Blanch) both of Ohio; her daughter Phyllis of Huntington, granddaughter Deborah Alley Bupp (Mike), great-granddaughter Sarah of Pennsylvania and many nieces and nephews. Mary graduated from Logan High School in 1940 and Martz Beauty School of Huntington in 1947. Until 1966 she owned Justice Beauty Shop in West Logan. During World War II she worked for Guyan Machinery. From her teen years she enjoyed singing alto both in gospel quartets and solo. Mary loved to quilt, sew, cook, garden, preserve foods, read and listen to Southern Gospel music. Mary attended Barboursville Baptist Church. When her children were young she was active in PTA and Girl Scouts as a leader. From 1991 to 1994 she was Secretary to the Board of Directors for Prestera Center of Huntington. Thanks to the nurses and staff at Hospice House of Huntington for their care and special thanks to Donna and Heather for helping to take care of her at home. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Barboursville Baptist Church, 948 Main Street, Barboursville, WV 25504. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 2:00 pm Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at the Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville with services following at 2:30 p.m. at the White Chapel Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with Rod Justice officiating.
