CHARLES LEONARD SWANSON
(April 28, 1945 - December 3, 2016)



CHARLES LEONARD SWANSON, 71, of Chillicothe, Ohio, formerly of Huntington, W.Va., passed away Saturday, December 3, 2016. He was born April 28, 1945, in Huntington, W.Va., a son of the late Ulysses Grant "Movie" Swanson and Shirley Blanche Carpenter Swanson. He was a retired auditor with the West Virginia Insurance Commission and taught History at West Virginia State College. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the US Army as a captain and infantry commander. He was a Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipient. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ulysses Grant "Mickey" Swanson Jr. and Melvin Swanson. He was the loving father of one son, Charles Andrew "Drew" Swanson of Huntington; two daughters, Aleisha Swanson of Huntington and Erika Swanson Sparks and her husband Tim of Grayson, Ky.; one stepson, Jonathan Kyle Masters of Huntington; two sisters, Betty Swanson Fritts of Butler, Ky., and Edna Gallagher of Falmouth, Ky.; one brother, Ivan Lee Swanson of St. Albans, W.Va.; five grandchildren, Adreanna Swanson, Arabellah Mae Swanson, Khloe Cooper, Landen Masters and Hailey Masters. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 10, 2016, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, with Pastor Joe Wayman and Pastor Elmer Mullins officiating. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery, Salt Rock, W.Va. Visitation will be one hour prior to service.
