Joseph Robert "Bob" Sydnor
(May 26, 1936 - July 10, 2009)



Joseph R. (Bob) Sydnor of Huntington died July 10, 2009 at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington at the age of 73. He will be missed dearly by his family and a host of friends and acquaintances. Bob was born May 26, 1936 in Huntington, WV., a son of the late Richard B. and Evelyn Vaughan Sydnor. Bob was the former President of Goldsmit Sydnor, Inc. of Huntington and was a past President, and a long-serving member of the Board of Directors, of the West Virginia Wholesalers Association.
He has a long history of supporting numerous local charities and was recently honored, along with his wife Pat, as a WSAZ "Hometown Hero" for his work with and support of Golden Girl, Inc. Bob was also the recipient of a certificate of recognition from former Governor Arch Moore naming him a "Distinguished West Virginian". He was a Knight of the Knights Templar, a member of the Royal Arch Masons Huntington #6, and a Master Mason of Lodge 53. An avid train buff, he was also a member of the National Railway Historical Society. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Patricia (Pat) L. Sydnor, daughter and son in law Andrea and Jim Cunningham, grandchildren Garrett Cunningham and his wife Mandee and Patricia Weir and her husband Zach, great grandchildren Lucy and Beckett Weir, all of Huntington. Brother Richard B. Sydnor, Jr. of Rockledge, FL, Brother in law Buhl J. (Jake) Clark and his wife Debra, of Barboursville and sister in law Helen Walls of Yorba Linda, CA. He was preceded in death by his beloved son Robert B. (Barry) Sydnor. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Golden Girl, Inc. or Hospice of Huntington. Graveside funeral service will be conducted 11:00 AM Monday July 13, 2009 at the Abbey of Remembrance Woodmere Memorial Park by The Rev. Paul D. Russell. Huntington Lodge # 53 AF & AM will conduct Masonic graveside rites. Friends may call at Chapman,s Mortuary Huntington from 4:00 until 6:00 PM Sunday July 12, 2009.
