Obituary



Sara Elisabeth Eckert, 70, of Ironton, OH, passed away Saturday, September 26, 2015, in Ashland Community Hospice. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 am Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at the First Southern Baptist Church, South Point, OH, of which she was a member, with Pastor Paul Michael, and Pastor Paul Meadows officiating. Burial will be in Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Huntington. She was born October 8, 1944, in Massillon, OH, a daughter of the late Bernard H. and Vera Beller Mays. A daughter, Victoria Edmonds, a son, Christopher M. Edmonds, one brother, David L. Mays, and a step-son Christopher Dean Eckert also preceded her in death. She had worked as a CNA at the Huntington State Hospital. Survivors include her husband, Richard Eckert of Ironton; two sisters, Maria A. Farley and Vera R. Mays, both of Milton, WV; three brothers, Bernard H. Mays of Milton, Edward O. Mays of Charlotte, NC. And Paul F. Mays also of Milton; one step-daughter, Jennifer Majer of South Point; two step-sons, Bryan Eckert of Ironton, OH, and Danny Joe Eckert, Sr., of MI; and numerous grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday, September 29, 2015, at the church. Chapman's Mortuary is assisting the family.
