Obituary

Lula Novella Gipson
(September 29, 1922 - September 20, 2011)

Lula Novella Rice Gipson, 88 of San Diego, CA formally of Huntington, WV peacefully entered the kingdom of Heaven on September 20, 2011. She was born September 29, 1922, in Lester, WV. She was preceded in death by her husband’s James H. Rice, Sr. and Aubrey Gipson. She was a magnificent mother, community activist and utmost a woman of God. In 1976 she was named WV black woman of the year. She leaves to cherish her memories: her children Gaynelle Rice Merriwether, Zara Ann Rice Sawi and James H. Rice, Jr. 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. A celebration of life will be 1:00pm Thursday at First Baptist Church, Huntington with Rev. Donte Jackson officiating. Rev. Roy E. Terry Eulogist. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 pm Wednesday at Ferrell-Chambers Funeral Home and 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday, Ferrell-Chambers Funeral Home is assisting the family.
