ObituaryMICHAEL JAY THOMPSON, SR. Michael Jay Thompson Sr. 61 of Huntington, W.Va., passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2015, in St. Mary's Medical Center, Huntington, W.Va. He was born August 17, 1953, in Huntington, W.Va., the son of the late Jay Vernon and Mary Lelia Mills Thompson. He was a disabled veteran serving in the U.S. Navy, enlisting in 1972. He was formerly employed at Conner Steel and later was self-employed in the salvage business. He attended New Life Church in Huntington, W.Va., and enjoyed watching and had personal connections to Mike Murdock Ministries. Mr. Thompson had a passion for local government and veterans. He frequently addressed Huntington City Council on accessibility issues of the physically challenged at government buildings. He also provided many hours of companionship and friendship to local veterans. He is survived by his loving son and daughter-in-law Michael Jay Thompson II. and Nicki of Milton, W.Va., and three grandchildren, Max, Mia and Sam Thompson. He was a proud grandfather, and focused on leaving a legacy for them. Mr. Thompson passed away on his son Jay’s birthday, but his family is comforted with the assurance they will meet again in Heaven. Funeral services will scheduled at a later date at the Donnel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Institute, W.Va. Henson & Kitchen Mortuary, Barboursville, W.Va. is caring for the family.
