Janice Ilene Thompson, 85 of Ft. Mill, SC and formerly of Barboursville, WV, passed away Friday, December 4, 2020 at Atrium Health Pineville, in Charlotte, NC. She was born August 18, 1935 in Huntington, WV; daughter of the late Kenneth Gerlach and Ida Mae Sowards Szilagyi. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband Paul Edward Thompson. They were married for over sixty years. Janice was a homemaker. She was also a volunteer at St. Mary's Hospital for 19 years as well as many years at the Ronald McDonald House in Huntington, WV. In addition to her volunteer work, Janice enjoyed crafting; she was a skilled quilt maker. She also enjoyed painting, needlework, sewing and ceramics. For the last 3 1/2 years, she lived in Ft. Mill, SC with her daughter and son-in-law.
Janice is survived by her daughter, Tina (Wayne) Brown of Ft. Mill, SC; step daughter, Cynthia (Randy) Chambers; granddaughter, Christa Brown; grandson, Zach Brown; and great-granddaughters, Chloe Ray and Cora Brown; and brother, Timothy Gerlach. Janice was loved and will be missed by her family.
Graveside services will be conducted at Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Huntington, WV on Friday, December 11, 2020 at 11:00 AM. Those in attendance are asked to follow current COVID-19 guidelines. Henson & Kitchen Mortuary, 6357 E. Pea Ridge Road, Huntington, WV 25705 is caring for the family.
