Walter Owen Sowards
(December 9, 1936 - October 16, 2013)



Walter Owen Sowards, 76, of Ceredo, WV, husband of Dora Jean Pemberton Sowards, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday October 16, 2013 at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm Sunday at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Chaplain Pablo Gonzales. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Wayne, WV. He was born December 9, 1936 in Guyandotte, WV a son of the late Leo Michael and Vada Mitchell Sowards. He was a retired carpet salesman and a member of the Vinson Memorial Christian Church. Walt served in the US Air Force and was a member of the American Legion Post 93 of Kenova. Additional survivors include a son and daughter in law Jeff and Kathy Sowards; three step sons and their spouses Greg and Terri Booth, Phil and Debbie Booth and Jeff Booth; two grandsons Joe Sowards and his wife Jennifer and Justin Sowards; four step grandchildren Carrie Medcalf, Josh Booth, Adam Booth and Leah Booth; six great grandchildren and special friends Jamie and Jennifer Underwood and their daughter Abagail. Friends may call from 1 pm until service time Sunday at the Reger Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Vinson Memorial Christian Church.
