Alvis A. Baker
(February 9, 1925 - March 28, 2017)



Alvis A. Baker, 92, of Barboursville, WV, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, March 28, 2017. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am Saturday, April 1, 2017 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel with Rev. Kevin Lantz and Rev. Ralph Sager officiating. Burial will be in Maupin Cemetery. He was born February 9, 1925 in Branchland, WV, a son of the late Calvin Wiley Baker and Texie Garnet Shuff Baker. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jennie Black Baker, one daughter, Donna Ramsey, one brother and two sisters. He was a retired employee of INCO and was a member of Steele Memorial United Methodist Church. He served in the US Army during World War II in the Pacific and European Theater. He is survived by three daughters, Jackie Stombock of Ona, WV, Ronda Baker of Barboursville, and Susan Oehlers (Chris) of Huntington; two sons, Robby Baker (Lois) of Plantation, FL, and Bruce Baker (Becky) of Ocala, FL; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Friday at the Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Steele Memorial United Methodist Church Building Fund, 733 Shaw Street, Barboursville, WV 25504. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Midland Meadows for their excellent and compassionate care and to all of the special caregivers that Al had over the past months.
