Kathryn Louise Helton
(August 12, 1936 - April 11, 2012)


Kathryn Louise Helton, 75, of Huntington, WV, passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2012, in Halifax Health Medical Center, Daytona Beach, Florida. She was born August 12, 1936 in Huntington, WV a daughter of the late Jock and Edith Jamison Smithson. Her son, 1st. Lt. Robin Franklin (Robbie) Helton, also preceded her in death. She was a member of Baptist Temple, Huntington. Kathryn was lovingly known as “Gert”. Kathryn’s love for children led her to devote many years volunteering at the Little League fields working in many different jobs and positions. You could later find her at the ball fields of Lincoln Junior High and Huntington High School. Kathryn’s outgoing personality led her to develop friendships with strangers. She loved to talk to people. She had a way of making everyone feel welcomed and loved. One of her favorite places to eat and socialize with family and friends was Gino’s Pub. That is why the family is gathering there in her honor after her burial service. Survivors include: her husband of 58 years, McDonald Helton, Jr.; a daughter, Lisa Ann Helton Roper of Port Orange, FL; a son and daughter-in-law, Scott Michael and Kelli Helton of South Point, OH; a daughter-in-law, Connie Helton Mastrangelo and her husband, Pete of Huntington; five grandchildren, David Roper and his wife, Kristen, of South Carolina, Kathy Roper and her husband, Russell, of Port Orange, FL, Robyn Helton of Los Angeles, CA, and Jake Helton and Josh Helton, both of South Point, OH; three great grandchildren, Kylie Roper, Preston, Ward, and Khloe Ward; and a host of other relatives and friends.. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Saturday, April 21, 2012, at Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington, with Rev. Mike Lacy officiating. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 PM Saturday at Chapman’s Mortuary.
