James Donald "Don" Grose
(May 31, 1927 - September 22, 2014)

James Donald “Don” Grose, 87, of Lesage, WV, husband of Jewel Nance Grose, passed away Monday, September 22, 2014, in St. Mary’s Medical Center, after a long illness. He was born May, 31, 1927, a son of the late Charles Thomas and Roxie N. Taylor Grose of Barker’s Ridge, WV. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Grose and a brother, Charles Grose, Jr. Don was retired from the C & O Railroad with 43 ½ years’ of service as a machinist. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of DAV Chapter 2, and a retired member and Captain, of the Ohio River Road Volunteer Fire Department. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a sister-in-law, Shirley Chapman of Glenwood, and her daughter, Carol Jean Hickman of Ravenswood, WV; two brothers-in-law, Ervan Nance of Gallipolis Ferry, WV, and Jimmy Nance and wife, Gloria of Glenwood; and several cousins and nephews. The family would like to thank two special cousins, Christine and Aileen for all their help and his special friend, Allen Murphy. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Thursday, September 25, 2014, at Chapman’s Mortuary, with the Rev. David Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery on Union Ridge. Friends may call one hour before services at the funeral home on Thursday.
