Obituary



Vernon Adkins, 92, of Huntington, passed away Friday, October 20, 2017 at Huntington Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be conducted 12:00 pm Wednesday, October 25, 2017, at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington, with Pastor O.F. Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, with military graveside rites conducted by Kenova American Legion Post 93. Vernon was born September 21, 1925 in Lincoln County, WV, a son of the late Bernie and Ella M. Sharp Adkins. His wife, Lillie Mae Brunty Adkins and one son, Don E. Adkins, sister, Pearl Robinson and three brothers, Raymond, Donnie and Paul also preceded him in death. He was a US Navy veteran, retired as a mold maker from the former Owens/Illinois Glass Plant, and was a member of Charity Baptist Church. Survivors include: one daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Danny Scarberry of Huntington; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Wendell J. and Linda Lou Adkins, Rodney L. Adkins, Vernon S. and Becky Adkins, Jackey R. and Gladys Adkins, all of Huntington; one brother, Clifford Adkins; eight grandchildren, Wendell J. Adkins, Jr., (Beth), David France (Michelle), Bobby Jo Taylor, Rodney L. Adkins, Jr., Jeremy Zane Scarberry, Vernon A. Adkins (Tabitha), Seth Adkins and Joshua (Stacey) Adkins; and eight great-grandchildren, Justin and Erica Taylor and Tabitha, Bryce, Evan, Lillie and Anna Adkins, Madison France; one great-great grandchild, Kendra L. Adkins. Visitation will be from 11:00 am to service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
