MELBA LOUISE SMYTON
(January 6, 1935 - September 14, 2016)



MELBA LOUISE SMYTON, 81, of Huntington, W.Va., was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, September 14, 2016, at 12:20 a.m. She was born January 6, 1935, in Mannington, W.Va., first born child to Pearl Irene Bollman Glover and Everett William Glover. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Robert Smyton Sr., of Bridgeton, N.J., her second born child, William Allen Smyton, and her parents, Pearl and Everett Glover. She is survived by two siblings, Rose and husband Lawrence Rexroad, and Everett Glover and wife Freda; three children, John Robert Smyton Jr., wife Keitha, Barbara Smyton Hicks, husband Ronnie, and Roger Allen Smyton, wife Wendy; sister-in-law, Edith Geffner; and three nieces. Melba and family were blessed with nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Melba was employed by Owens-Illinois Glass Company in Fairmont, W.Va., when she met and married her husband, John. After retirement, Melba and her husband John worked for Timberline Ski Resort and were owners of Hackers and Wackers Driving Range in Canaan Valley, W.Va. Loving wife and mother of three, Melba traveled with her husband to Charleston, W.Va., Brockport, N.Y., Chicago, Ill., Norwalk, Conn., Fairmont, W.Va., Huntington, W.Va., Dry Fork, W.Va., Barboursville, W.Va., and Puerto Rico and Egypt. She was a member of Barboursville Baptist Church in Barboursville, W.Va., and served her Lord at the Mannington Food and Clothing Pantry and Faith In Action of Huntington, W.Va. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, September 16, 2016, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel with Rev. Evan Arkell officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Davis Cemetery, Davis, W.Va. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Hospice House of your choice.
