Edward Barton

James Edward Barton, 85, of Huntington, WV, husband
of Golda Sharon White Barton, passed away to join his heavenly father on
Thursday, February 12, 2009, in the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House,
Huntington, after a second bout with cancer. A memorial service will be held
at Kuhn Memorial Presbyterian Church, 955 Main Street, Barboursville, WV,
conducted by Pastor Jerry Harrah, on Sunday, February 15, 2009, at 1:30 PM,
directly after which friends and family will gather for visitation. No
viewing will be held, per Jim's request. His remains will be buried in
Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington. Jim was born on May 4, 1923 in Otsego, MI,
a son of the late Theodore R. and Lila Caya Barton. He served in WW II in
the Army Air Corps, 58th Bomb Wing Association, C.B.I. area, and was
stationed on the island of Tinian at the time the plane "Enola Gay" dropped
the atomic bomb. Jim was a 32nd Degree Mason, a Shriner, who ushered for the
Marshall University football and basketball games. He was also a member of
the Elks, Lions Club, Moose, and American Legion. He moved to North Palm
Beach, FL, in 1963 and was in the insurance business for several years. He
was then employed by the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Department, and retired
in 2003. Jim was a member of Community United Church of Christ in Lake Park,
FL, for many years, and the Ocean view United Methodist in Juno, FL, before
moving to Huntington, WV. He then joined Kuhn Memorial Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Lyle
Barton of Otsego, MI; and his first wife, Shirley Hill Barton in 1976. They
had two surviving sons, Bruce Barton of Jupiter, FL, and Brian Barton of
West Palm Beach, FL. In 1979 he married Golda Sharon White Barton of West
Palm Beach. In addition to his wife and sons he is survived by a brother,
Jack Burton of Otsego, MI; cousins, Peter and Ronald Cary, and Mac Barton,
all of Otsego, MI; a sister-in-law, Louise White of Huntington; and nieces,
Carol Jones of Huntington and Janelle Roy of Port St. Lucie, FL, as well as
many other relatives and a host of friends whom he loved. Jim was such a
kind gentleman who respected others and would leave them many times with the
words "Thank you for making me a part of your day." As your wife, I thank
you, Jim, for making me a part of your life for these wonderful years that
we were together. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in memory of Jim
to the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, 3100 Staunton Road, Huntington,
WV, 25702. The family wishes to thank this organization for their wonderful
care, as well as Dr. Sebert and the other medical personal that cared for
Jim during his illness.
