JOSEPH KAYE TRIPPY, 97, of Huntington, WV
passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2009 at St. Mary's Medical Center,
Huntington. He was born on March 6, 1911 in Westfield, NY. He was the eldest
child of Joseph and Rose Lamonica Trippy. He grew up in Jamestown, NY, one
of five children. He was married to Elizabeth Lide Trippy for 49 years and
to Harriett Ellison Dobbs Trippy for 12 years, both deceased. He is survived
by two children; a daughter, Elizabeth McCabe, of New Carlisle, Ohio, and a
son, Tom, of Oviedo, Florida. He leaves two grandchildren; Rebecca Trippy of
Huntington, and Michael Trippy, also of Huntington. Additionally, he is
survived by a niece, Roselyn Bowers of Cape Coral, Florida and a nephew,
Joseph Trippy, of Cape Coral, Florida, sister-in-law, Stella Trippy, of
North Tonawanda, NY, and three stepchildren, Petrie Dobbs Brown, Addison
Dobbs of Greenville, WV, and Lee F. Dobbs 111, of Taylors, SC. Kaye Trippy
was a graduate of Marshall University where he was a member and past
president of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He was also a graduate of the
American College of Life Underwriters. He was an insurance underwriter for
Connecticut Mutual and later for Massachusetts Mutual in their offices from
1937 until 1997, later moving his office to his home. He was a member of the
Society of Financial Service Professionals, Huntington Association of Life
Underwriters, and Huntington Chapter of Chartered Life Underwriters. Other
organizations he was active in were: Board of Directors for Huntington City
Mission, Huntington Civitan Club, Huntington Zoning Appeals Board,
Huntington Musical Arts Guild, River Cities Barbershop Group, and Mayfair
Club. He was a charter member of Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church where he
was an elder and choir member. He also served the church in past years as
church school superintendent, church school teacher, member of
pastor-seeking committees, and Presbytery representative to General
Assembly. He was a devoted fan of the Marshall Thundering Herd and attended
sporting events when he was well into his 90's. He was active in the alumni
association and was the donor of two Marshall scholarships. Kaye Trippy was
a devoted father and community member. He will be missed by many, especially
his family. Funeral services for Mr. Trippy will be held at the Beverly
Hills Presbyterian Church, Huntington, on Monday, January 5, 2009 at 11am.
Rev. Cinda Harkless will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn Memorial
Park, Huntington. Friends may call at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington on
Sunday, January 4, 2009 from 5 - 7pm. In lieu of flowers, the family has
requested donations in Kaye's loving memory to either Hospice of Huntington,
PO Box 464, Huntington, WV 25709, or to the Beverly Hills Presbyterian
Church, 469 Norway Avenue, Huntington, WV 25705.
