Obituary

Gene Brooks
(October 20, 1935 - April 15, 2013)

“Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage
And then is heard no more. It is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury
Signifying nothing.”
— Macbeth (Act 5, Scene 5)
Gene Brooks, 77, of Huntington, WV, husband of Pamela Dunlap Brooks, passed away Monday April 15, 2013 in Cleveland, OH. He was born October 20, 1935 in Logan County WV, a son of the late Bryant and Roxie Thompson Brooks. Two sisters, Kathleen Bryant and Mildred Dalton also preceded him in death. He was a US Army veteran, and was a former Maintenance Supervisor at Steel of West Virginia. A 1st generation college graduate, he insisted that his sons go to university, and would support them as best he could. For the past few years he gave constant care to Pam for as long as he was able. He always had a concern for the needy, especially for animals, and gave frequently to various charities. Family and friends will always remember Gene for being talented with his hands, and having the gift of gab. Survivors in addition to his wife include, two sons and their spouses Aaron and Rozella Brooks of Dunbar, WV, and Dr. Clayton Brooks and his spouse Dr. Bonita Lawrence of Huntington; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Opal Casey of Chapmanville, WV and Allene and Virgil Sexton of South Point, Ohio; a brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Marcelle Brooks of Sylvester, GA; and one granddaughter, Jessica Brooks of Dunbar, WV. Funeral services will be conducted 7:00 PM Friday, April 19, 2013, at Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington. Attendees are invited to say a few words in his honor. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Friday at the funeral home. Graveside service will be conducted noon Saturday at Conley Family Cemetery, Logan County, WV.
