Phillip Daniel Summerfield
(March 6, 1950 - April 13, 2013)



Philip Daniel Summerfield, born March 6th, 1950, passed away on April 13th 2013, and welcomed in heaven by the loving embrace of his parents James A. and Sarah Ellen Summerfield and his granddaughter Violet Dempsey, wives Cheryl Wilcox Summerfield and Ida Mae Christian Summerfield. He is survived by his daughter Sara Bethany Summerfield, Phil had so much family that cherished him: his brother James and wife Beverly Summerfield , their children J.D. and Matthew Summerfield, Michael Summerfield and son Seth, and his loving brother Richard and wife Kathleen Summerfield, step-daughter Angie Summerfield and step-son Patrick Oxley as well as two granddaughters Mia Jade and Morgan Brianna. Those that had the honor to spend time with him were given the gift of how truly special he was. Phil loved music and was an accomplished jazz trumpet player. He was a member of Spring Valley Country Club and served as Captain of the Crusties bowling team for over 25 years. Phil enjoyed playing golf, working on his cars, and sitting on the porch swing with his grandchildren. A life-long resident of Huntington, he was a graduate of Huntington High School Class of 1968 where he was a champion wrestler. He was a proud alumnus of Marshall University with a degree in Engineering. Phil was retired from J.H. Fletcher & Co where he worked for 42 years as a Plant Manager and Quality Assurance Inspector. Phil was an amazing man and a wonderful father and grandfather. Phil will be dearly missed by all his loved ones, and all those who had the privilege to call him a friend. Visitation from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Wednesday April 17, 2013 at Chapman’s Mortuary Huntington. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted 10:00 AM Thursday April 18, 2013 at Our Lady of Fatima with Father Jim Sobus officiating.
