Floyd Garland Dowdy, Jr.

Floyd Garland Dowdy, Jr., 85, of Tappahannock, VA formerly of Huntington, WV passed away Monday, April 1, 2013. He was a World War II Navy Veteran and the retired distribution superintendent for West Virginia American Water Company, Huntington District. Floyd was a member of the Tappahannock Rotary, The Essex Club and a charter member of Tappahannock Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his two sons, Alan Dowdy and infant Michael Dowdy. Floyd is survived by his wife, Jo Piper Dowdy; his daughter, Deborah Dowdy Sliger (Robert) of Huntington, WV; one sister, Kathleen Decker of Saginaw, MI; two grandchildren; a special great-granddaughter, Carmen Hilling; one nephew; three nieces and his devoted terrier, Ellie. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 4, 2013 in the Marks-Bristow Funeral Home, Tappahannock. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 6 in Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington with The Reverend Richard Mobayed, HR officiating. The family will receive friends from 12 Noon until 1:45 p.m. Saturday at Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington. The procession will leave at 1:45 p.m. Veterans Honor Guard Post 16 will conduct military graveside rites. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Tappahannock Presbyterian Church Building Fund, P O Box 983, Tappahannock, VA 22560.
