ObituaryHERBERT C. DAVIS
HERBERT C. DAVIS, 92, of Salt Rock, W.Va., passed away Friday, April 22, 2016. He was born July 15, 1923, in Cabell County to the late Golden and Thelma Davis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie Davis of England, two brothers, one sister, and one step-son, Chuck Adkins. He is survived by his wife of twenty-one years, Rowena Davis of Salt Rock; his daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Terry Ballard of Huntington; three step-sons, Greg Adkins (Misty) of Salt Rock, Doss Adkins (Lisa) also of Salt Rock, and Eddie Adkins (Charlotte) of Ona; two brothers, Lloyd Davis of North Carolina and Larry Jo Davis (Dortha) of Proctorville, Ohio; one sister, Edna Mae Carpenter (Lonnie) of Kenova; seventeen step-grandchildren; twenty-one step- great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Herbert was a graduate of Huntington East High School in 1941. He then attended what was known then as Marshall College. He then became a heroic soldier for the US Army during WWII. He came home as Captain Herbert C. Davis. He then became employed by AEP where he retired from after so many years. He also served in the National Guard at this time. He was also a Scout Leader for the Boy Scouts. He loved his family and country. He was a life member of VFW Post 9738 of Guyandotte, DAV Chapter 2 of Huntington and the American Legion Post 93 of Kenova. Services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2016, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, with Freddie Carver officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Hospice of Huntington for all their help and care they gave during his final days, especially Mary Foster RN, Bethany Felinton MSW, Melissa Cooper CNA and Tim Beach RN. In lieu of flowers, you can donate the money to Hospice of Huntington or a veteran's organization in Herbert's name. Herbert lived a full life and changed some along the way. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
