Patteson Protzman
Esther Virginia "Pat" Patteson Protzman of Barboursville went home to be with the Lord on April 18, 2016 at Anna's Care Home. Esther was born on April 12, 1925, in Bluefield, WV, daughter of the late John and Lillian Dunnigan Patteson. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 67 years, Donald, her son John, daughter Nancy Hulett, sisters, Irene, Louise Hughes, and Annie James, and a brother John. Esther was a Christian and when she was able she attended Lewis Memorial Baptist Church. Esther graduated in 1942 as Valedictorian of Matoka High School. She then attended Marshall College where she earned her BA degree in 1946. Esther and Donald were married on July 8, 1946. After Donald graduated from the University of Illinois in 1949, they moved to West Virginia. There they raised four children before moving to LaPlace, Louisiana in 1980. They returned to Barboursville in the fall of 2005. Esther is survived by her daughter Jean and husband Mel Vaughn of Teays Valley, son Steve and wife Sandy of Barboursville, sister Betty Campbell, sister-in-law Virginia Sikora, and special nephew Bill Hughes. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and seven nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Anna Wilson, her care giver, who took loving care of her these past 10 months. Also special thanks to Hospice and Becky Lemley her Hospice volunteer. A service to honor Esther's life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, April 22, 2016 at Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville with Dr. David Lemming officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Huntington. Visitation will be held an hour before the funeral. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Huntington or Lewis Memorial Baptist Church.
