Obituary

Patrick Joseph Woodard
(1959 - December 21, 2018)

Patrick Joseph Woodard, 59, of Ona, WV, passed away Friday, December 21, 2018. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend. Many people have declared him both the hardest working and most intelligent man they have known. He was a Christian. He was honest, loyal, brave, and a man of honor. He built his own house and filled it with music and singing. He was a jack-of-all trades, master of some. He came from humble beginnings, supporting his family as a janitor but retiring as CFO of major law firm Farrell, Farrell, and Farrell. He was an active Freemason, past master of Western Star Lodge #11 in Guyandotte, member of Minerva Lodge #13 in Barboursville, member of appended bodies: Scottish and York Rites, Knights Templar, and the York Rite College. He was a voracious lifelong reader, seeming to remember every word he read. Civil War history became an obsession and he reenacted with the 36th Virginia Infantry for many years. His other lifelong passion was music and played guitar and sang. He had an amazing sense of humor with an infectious laugh. He could make anyone laugh, in the best or worst of times. He loved children and coached Little League baseball and basketball. He loved all three American sports and had a wicked 20 foot jump-shot. He hated to fight, but wouldn't avoid one. He was the first to offer a hand, the last one to leave, and never put himself first. He was a proud family man and taught his boys to stand tall. He will be sorely missed. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 27, 2018 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Rob Wolford. Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 28, 2018 at Gill Cemetery, Salt Rock, WV. He was born January 19, 1959 in Huntington, WV, a son of Brady Paul Woodard (and wife Linda) of Barboursville, WV, and Ramona Polley Capron of Huntington, WV. He was preceded in death by his step-father Daniel Capron, one brother, Robert Dillon, and father-in-law, Norman Blue. Also surviving are his wife of 41 years, Melody Blue Woodard; two sons, P. J. Woodard and Doug Woodard, of Huntington; brothers and sister-in-law, Mike Woodard of Huntington, WV, and Scott and Nafi Woodard of Scott Depot, WV, step-sister Christy Long Gue (Michael) and boys, step-brother William R. Long, III (Michele) and boys, mother-in-law, Carlotta Blue of Ona, WV, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marsha and Bob Dille of Ona, WV, niece, Angela WillaMarie Dillon; nephews, Stephen Dille, Tim Dille, Gabriel Woodard; great-nephews, Parker Dille and Braxton Dillon. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, December 27, 2018 at the Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville. The funeral procession will leave the funeral home on Friday, December 28, 2018 at 10:15 a.m. to Gill Cemetery.
