Robert Lee "Champ" Combs Sr.
(March 29, 1923 - January 14, 2019)



Robert Lee “Champ” Combs, 95, of Huntington, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 14, 2019. He was born on March 29, 1923 in Huntington, W.Va., a son of the late Shade and Mary Combs. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Rose Napier, Polly Tull and Olive Langham; six brothers, Alec, Sim, William, Thomas, James and Adam Combs; and one grandson, Troy Combs. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during WWII during the battle of the Bulge. He was a devoted husband, father and loved all of his family very much. He was retired from HK Poter. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ellen Ward Combs; one daughter, Glenda Campbell (Lon); two sons, Allen Combs (Teresa) and Michael Combs (Judy); twelve grandchildren, Sonya Perkins, Mark Combs, Jennifer Roop (Frank), Tammy Stewart (Jerry), Lisa Baumhover (Patrick), Lalaina Callicoat (Darren), Bobby Combs (Tamra), James Taylor, K. Todd Taylor, Charlie Campbell, Sara Campbell and Jay Campbell; 14 great-grandchildren, Jimmy Perkins, Tayte Combs, Gavin Roop, Ashley Hastings, Lindsay Davenport, Nathan Stewart, Allyson Baumhover, Karianna Baumhover, Landon Baumhover, Simeon Combs, Rashaan Combs, Tevin Taylor, Jordyn Taylor and Tylin Taylor; and six great-great grandchildren, Easton Perkins, Casey Perkins, Paisley Hastings, Brynlee Stewart, Remi Davenport and Tristan Davenport. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville with Pastor Greg Tomlinson officiating. Burial will follow in Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service.
