Sarah Marie Gifford Eich
(January 8, 1915 - November 7, 2009)



Sarah "Marie" Gifford Eich, 94, of Ona, WV, left her earthly home, Saturday November 7, 2009 at Midland Meadows Senior Living. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Wednesday November 11, 2009 at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington, WV, with the Rev. Caudle Adkins officiating. Burial will be in Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Huntington. She was born January 8, 1915 in Lincoln County, WV, a daughter of the late James Samuel and Dora Almedia Hazelett Tooley. Others preceding her in death were two husbands, Clarence Elmer Gifford, Jr., and James A. Eich; four sisters, Edna Mannon, Mabel Blankenship, Faye McClain, and Ocie "Jackie" Legg; two brothers, Luther Tooley and Robert Tooley; and a stepsister, Mamie Miller. Marie was a member of the Rock of Ages United Baptist Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir, and with different quartets. She enjoyed crafts, hunting, and fishing. She was a former employee of Huntington Manufacturing and the Deputy Assessor for Cabell County Tax Department. Survivors include two sisters, Harriet Matthews and Norma Lee Harrison, both of Huntington; a brother, James T. Tooley of Huntington; a stepson, Gareth Eich and his wife Deborah of St. Petersburg, FL; stepdaughter, Diane Sweet and her husband Rick of The Woodlands, TX; and several nieces and nephews including her caregivers, James and Donna Mannon of Barboursville. Flowers are welcome and donations may be made to Hospice of Huntington. The family would like to extend special gratitude to Dr. Cindy Pinson, Dr. Kevin Brown, the nurses and R.A.'s at Midland Meadows, the nurses and doctors at St. Mary's Medical Center, Hospice of Huntington, and Marcella Woodard. To all of you that gave Aunt Marie a special smile, a few kind words, deeds or a special "I Love You", Thank-you. Friends may call 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington
