Mary Elizabeth Short
(February 28, 1916 - November 12, 2009)



Mary Elizabeth Short, 93, of Hurricane, WV, was ushered into the throne room of the Heavenly Father on Thursday, November 12, 2009 in Teays Valley Nursing Home. "She fought the good fight". Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Saturday, November 14, 2009 at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington with Rev. Phil Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Enon Cemetery, Salt Rock, WV. She was born February 28, 1916, in Elkins, WV, a daughter of the late John Wesley and Maggie Carr. Also preceding her in death were her husband, Oscar Joe Short; a son, Billy Short; a granddaughter, Sandra L. Martin; and two grandsons, James "Jim" Edgar Dailey, and Philip Charles Dailey. She was a homemaker and a 64-year member of the First Huntington Christian Baptist Church of God. Survivors include: one daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and James Edward Dailey of Huntington; two grandsons, Stephen Dailey and his wife Teresa of Milton, and Shawn Short of Lavalette; one granddaughter and her husband, Misty and Jason Queen also of Lavalette; nine great-great grandchildren; seven great-great-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; and two very, very special friends, Wanda Wells and Jackie Ferguson. Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Friday, November 13, 2009 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Christian Baptist Youth, c/o Josh Blevins 182 Edendale Road, Portsmouth, Ohio 45662.
