WYLIE JACK JEFFREY Sr.
(March 11, 1027 - February 16, 2016)



WYLIE JACK JEFFREY SR., 88, of Barboursville, passed away February 16, 2016, at St. Mary's Medical Center. Visitation will be held at New Baptist Church, Huntington, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 19, 2016. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, February 20, 2016, at 2 p.m., also at New Baptist Church, with burial services to follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens with military honors. Jack's grandchildren will serve as pallbearers, with Scouts to serve as honorary pallbearers. Jack was born on March 11, 1927, in Barboursville, W.Va., where he became a lifelong resident. Jack graduated from Barboursville High School in 1945 as valedictorian of his class and was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 1988. A deacon of New Baptist Church, Jack was the captain of New Baptist's AWANA program and a faithful member to the Beran Sunday School class, where he was the master apple butter connoisseur. In addition, he played a vital role in starting the Church's foodbank. Jack was also a member of the United States Marine Corps a veteran of World War II, founding member of Hilltop Sportsman Club, and the Scoutmaster of Troop 63 for 50 years. He totaled more than 100 Eagle Scouts in his life. He retired from INCO in 1987 but continued his work with the Boy Scouts of America, gaining the Silver Beaver Award, Scoutmaster Emeritus, Scoutmaster Award of Merit, Conservation Award, as well as the Hometown Hero Award. He was preceded in death by his parents Eula and Millard Jeffrey; brothers Charles, Leo, Ray, Roy, Tom, Paul, Vivian and Stacy; sister Evelyn; and two grandchildren, Trey and Ty. Jack is survived by his wife of 63 years, Peggy; sons Wylie (Christie) and Terry (Judy); and daughter Heidi (Larry). He is also survived by his grandchildren Zach, Lindsay (Sam), Adam, Dillon, Hannah, Madison, and great-grandchild Kenidy. Jack's family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Larry Harmon and his family, their church family for all of their love and support during his illness, Dr. Ahmad, Dr. Bannister, the staff at St. Mary's for their care, and John in St. Mary's ICU. Jack was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, Scoutmaster, coach and friend who will be greatly missed.
