Oscar
Taylor Adkins
(April 9, 1928 -- June 13, 2009)
A light in our life has been extinguished. Oscar Taylor Adkins,
81, of Huntington, WV, passed away Saturday, June 13, 2009, at his
residence. He was born April 9, 1928 in Huntington, WV to the late Grover
Cleveland Adkins and Caroline Elizabeth Clay Adkins. He served our country
in the Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter Day Saints and he was a Mason. He was a retired steelworker
having worked for McClouth Steel. Oscar is also preceded in death by his
son, Steven Soltas; two sisters, Izel Adkins and Zeva Nichols; and six
brothers, Cecil Clyde, infant (not named), Ishmel, Mansfield, Howard, and
Grover Cleveland, Jr. He is survived by his granddaughter, Breesha Means and
her husband, Christopher, of Huntington; three great granddaughters, Rylee
Tayler Means, Kaylah Lynn Litwiler, and Lena Mariah Menapace, all of
Huntington; two sisters, Ruby Linville of Florida and Beatrice Lovejoy of
Culloden, WV; and a brother, Melvin Adkins of Spencer, WV. He leaves behind
many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He will truly be
missed. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 17, 2009
at Chapman�s Mortuary, Huntington, with Bishop Jay Duncan officiating.
Burial will be in Vincent Adkins Cemetery, Racoon Creek, Cabell County, WV
with Military Graveside rites conducted by Veterans Honor Guard of American
Legion Post #16. Friends may call from 6:00 to 9:00 PM Tuesday and noon to
2:00 PM Wednesday at Chapman�s Mortuary.
