Charles Alvin Roland
(February 19, 1928 - June 18, 2009



Charles Alvin Roland, 81, of Huntington, WV, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2009, in St. Mary's Medical Center. He was born February 19, 1928 in Asheville, NC, a son of the late Sheriff Thomas Roland and Laura Melton Roland. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Diane McAlister. He was the meat manager for the former B & B Market for 24 years and retired from the Route 60 Foodland. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member and deacon at New Baptist Church. Dad had a green thumb and loved golfing, fly fishing, and the barbershop quartet. Survivors include: his wife, J. Elizabeth Roland; three sons and two daughters-in-law, David and Pam Roland of Wilmington, NC, and James Roland Sr. and Eugenia Roland and Clarence Roland, all of Huntington; two daughters and a son-in-law, Debbie and Ray Mozingo of Culpeper, VA and Nancy Spradling of Huntington; a son-in-law, Gary McAlister of Huntington; twelve grandchildren, Chris Montsinger and wife Kristen, Michelle Osborne and husband Rob, Ezekiel Roland, Jason Roland and wife Carey, Joshua Roland and wife Carrie, James Roland Jr. and wife Melissa, Danielle Roland, Brandy Lusk, Ronnie Lusk and wife Nancy, Donnie Lusk and wife Brook, Nathan McAlister, and Damon McAlister; and 11 great grandchildren, Lucas Montsinger, Hannah Osborne, Kaylee Roland, Kyle and Coby Roland, Bailey, Brooklyn, and Bentley Roland, Brianna Lusk, and Madison and Abigail Lusk. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Saturday, June 20, 2009, at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington, with Pastor Trent Eastman and Pastor Don Walker officiating. Burial will be in Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Huntington. Friends may call from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM Saturday at the Chapman's Mortuary.
