Thelma Gay
(April 10, 1915 -- June 11, 2009)



Thelma Gay, 94, widow of Ralph H. Gay, died on Thursday, June 11, 2009, at Heartland of Riverview in South Point, Ohio. Thelma was born April 10, 1915 in Montgomery, WV, the daughter of the late William Wallace and Anis Walker Burdette. In addition to her husband and parents, she is also preceded in death by a son, Reverend Ralph G. Gay of Phoenix, AZ; an infant daughter, Sherry Yvonne Gay; a brother, William Burdette; and a son-in-law, Steven T. Napier. Surviving family members include a sister, Wanda Robinson of Oak Hill, WV; a brother, Clifford Burdette of Florida; three daughters, Marilyn Sue (Mrs. Richard) Tawney of Chesapeake, OH, Roma Lynn (Mrs. Gary) Adkins of South Point, OH and Port St. Lucie, FL, and Brenda Jo Napier of South Point, OH; a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Anne Gay of Phoenix, AZ and Canaan Valley, WV and seven grandchildren, Dianna Pratt of Columbus, OH, Terresa (Mrs. Stephen) Pratt of Chesapeake, OH, Rhonda (Mrs. Chris) Kline of Pedro, OH, Steven R. Napier and his wife, Stacy, of Moline, IL, Heather (Mrs. Jeff) Green and Brett Napier and his wife, Janelle, of South Point, OH, and Matthew Alan Gay of Phoenix, AZ. Thelma is also survived by 11 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Thelma was a member of South Point United Methodist Church and a life member and past Worthy Matron (1959-1960) of the Order of the Eastern Star, Guyandotte Chapter #89. The family wishes to thank the Heartland Hospice and the staff at Heartland of Riverview, where she resided for the past four years, for all their wonderful, compassionate care given to Thelma. In accordance with her wishes, cremation will take place and a private inurnment service will be conducted at Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Abbey of Devotion, on Rt. 60 in Huntington, WV, by the Reverend Pete Shaffer.
