Okey Dent Pack
(August 25, 1916 - June 16, 2009)



Okey Dent Pack, 92, died Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at his residence. Funeral service will be conducted 2:00 PM Friday June 19, 2009 at Chapman's Mortuary Huntington by Pastor Michael S. Chapman. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. He was born August 25, 1916, in Bowels, West Virginia. Preceding him in death were his spouse Alma Irene Campbell Pack, his parents Lesslie and Effie Pack, his brother Emil Pack, and his sister Shirley Lawson. He is survived by his daughter Pearl Virginia ("Jenny") Pack of Huntington, his son Lesslie Millard ("Porky") Pack of Kuna, Idaho, his son and daughter-in-law William Larry ("Bill") and Joy Pack of Barboursville. He also is survived by his grandchildren Tony and Donna Pack of Idaho, Tim and Jen Pack of Texas, Todd and Christy Pack of Idaho, Amanda Pack, Matthew and Kristen Pack, and Michael Pack of Barboursville, great grandchildren Vicky, Robby, James, Marshall, Philip, Jakob of Idaho, Alex and Maddix of Texas, Aunts Ota Hager and Erie Pack, sister-in-law Blanche Zabel, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Okey graduated from Hamlin High School and East Trade School. He worked at many and various jobs from the time he was a young boy. He entered the U. S. Army Air Force during World War II and is a survivor of the Bataan Death March and about three and one-half years as a prisoner of war of the Japanese. He worked for Thompson Stove Factory and then J. H. Fletcher Mining Company for over 30 years where he retired in 1982. He was a Baptist by faith and also attended the South Side United Methodist Church. He loved life and had a wonderful sense of humor that will be missed by all. V.F.W. Post 1064 will conduct military graveside rites. Friends may call at Chapman's Mortuary from 5:00 until 8:00 PM Thursday June 18, 2009 & after 1:00 PM Friday.
