Obituary
Doris passed away Friday, July 16,
2021, in Altamonte Springs, FL. She was born August 27, 1931, in Chicago,
Illinois, to Ellis Edward and Mary Oczkowski Harmon. She is preceded in
death by her parents and a great grandson, Matthew Hunter Ritchie. She is
survived by her husband of 69 years, William Bill, a sister, Thelma Griffin,
a daughter, Wanda Jean Ritchie, a son, Michael, four grandchildren,
Christopher Fulks Jessie, Amanda Bashaw Nic, Matthew Ritchie Emma, and
Holland Ritchie. She is also survived by four great grandchildren, Casey
Fulks, Cadence Fulks, Carter Fulks, and Jackson Bashaw.
She graduated from Wells High School in Chicago in 1949, and received a BA
from Harding College now University in 1953. While a student at Harding she
worked in the Student Center. She married a fellow student, William Bill
Fulks at the end of their junior years.
She spent most of her life as a homemaker. She was a volunteer at the Lee's
Summit, MO, Elementary School. She also worked for a candy factory in
Chicago and in her parents' radio store and later in the grocery store in
Chicago, and the Owens-Illinois Glass Company in Huntington, WV. She taught
school at Pangburn, AR and retired from the Jones Store in Kansas City in
1994.
She was baptized into Christ by Andy T. Ritchie while a student at Harding
and has been a faithful Christian. She was a Bible class teacher for many
years. She was a member of the Plymouth church of Christ.
In 2008, they established the William and Doris Fulks Distinguished Chair of
the College of Bible and Religion at Harding University. The Fulks Chair
became active in 2015 and will continue to serve the faculty, staff, and
students for years to come.
She has been a loyal wife, a loving mother, grandmother and great
grandmother. Her life has blessed many people in many areas, having lived in
seven different states.
Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington, WV is in charge of arrangements. A family
viewing will be at the mortuary Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at 1:00 followed
by a graveside service at 2:00 conducted by Dan Campbell of Harding
University and Internment at the White Chapel Memorial Gardens Cemetery in
Barboursville, WV.
