Obituary


Robert K. Joye, a Vinton resident, was 82 years old when he passed away on January 21, 2016, at the Salem VA Medical Center in Salem, Virginia. He was a C.P. O. in the U. S. Navy and served for 30 years, which included time spent in Korea and Vietnam. Three years of that time was spent in the Army in the U. S. Infantry Division out of Fort Knox, Kentucky. After retiring, Robert started working at Steel of West Virginia in Huntington and worked there for 20 years. He was a dedicated member of Shenandoah Baptist Church in Roanoke, Virginia and a former member of Grace Gospel Church in Huntington, West Virginia. Robert is survived by his spouse, Helen Joye; daughter, Linda Harmeyer and her spouse Kurt of Alphretta, Georgia; daughter, Cathy Rice and her spouse Terry of Vinton, Virginia; granddaughter Jennifer Thompson; grandson Matthew Thompson; granddaughter Heather White; grandson Ryan White; seven great grandchildren, Ethan, Dominick, Megan, Elise, Ashton, Demetria, and Brayden; sister in law Irene Joye of Wayne, West Virginia. Other survivors include many loved nieces, nephews, and friends to share his memory. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Olin and Laura M’Comas Joye; sister Betty Stiltner; brother, William L. Joye; nephew David Stiltner; step parents Hazel and Lee Stowers of Huntington, WV. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until service time at 2:00 PM. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm Saturday January 30, at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Dr. Robert Alderman, Pastor of Shenandoah Baptist Church. There will not be a grave side committal service. Robert K. Joye will be buried in the Jones Family Cemetery.
