Obituary

Laura Michelle Wood
(October 29, 1988 - September 9, 2017)

Laura Michelle Wood, 28, of Barboursville, passed away September 9, 2017. She was born October 29, 1988 in Huntington, a daughter of Kathy Kilgore Wood of Barboursville, and Kelly Wood and stepmother Daina of Ashland. She is survived by her daughter, Emma Rose Johnson; siblings Tony Wood of Ashland and Amanda Carinelli and husband Jordan of Athens, OH; stepsiblings Desirae Hamlin and Alex Hamlin, both of Ashland; paternal grandmothers, Ann Wood of Barboursville, and Margaret Reger of Huntington; maternal grandfather, Buddy Kilgore of Huntington; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Laura’s joy and courage in the face of adversity inspired so many around her. Her sense of humor left her unforgettable to every life she touched. Her love of laughter was equal to her love of art; from a young age, her natural talent for music, art, and poetry was undeniable. She was a musician, and she spent her life singing and playing music, spreading her love and light through song. She was a painter, and her ability to see and capture the beauty of the world around her was awe-inspiring. She was a poet, and her powerful words made people think, laugh, and cry. She was also an athlete; she participated in soccer and gymnastics for many years, and her strength and fierce competitiveness fueled her success. Above all things, her friends and family will remember her for her kindness and quirkiness. Even in the face of her own struggles, she had a selfless penchant for making others smile and laugh. It is for this reason she will live on forever in the hearts of the countless people she touched. Although her final years in this world were troubled, her family can be comforted in the knowledge that she has finally found peace. The family would like to thank Dr. Badhwar, his dedicated surgical team, and the entire staff in the CVICU at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV for their tireless and inspiring effort to save Laura. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Tuesday at the Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at the Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville with burial to follow in Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington.
