Sylvia Mount
(October 7, 1918 - July 5, 2009)


Sylvia Mount, age 90, lifetime resident of Huntington, WV, died Sunday morning, July 5, 2009, at Heartland of Riverview, South Point, OH. She now walks the streets of gold of which she spoke so often. Sylvia was born October 7, 1918 to her parents John Grover and Lena Alice Kirtley Mount. She is survived by sisters, Elsie Mount Poynter and Edith Mount Sullivan of Huntington, WV. Additional survivors are two nieces and their families, Phyllis Sullivan Bell, husband Vernon, and their children, Randall Bell and Ronda Bell, all of Huntington; Lynnette Poynter Ray Spreacker, husband Burl of Proctorville, OH and her children, Miriam Ray Maxey, husband Duane of Huntington, Conner Ray, wife Lola of Salt Rock and Nathan Ray of Proctorville; one nephew, Sidney "Skip" Poynter, wife Rosa of El Paso TX and sons, Eric Poynter, wife Shirley of Simpsonville, SC and Jason Poynter, wife Maria of El Paso; a special cousin, Anna Lee Mount plus many friends and cousins. Besides her parents, Sylvia is preceded in death by an infant sister, Allyson Lynn Mount; two brothers-in-law, Leslie Poynter and Otis Sullivan; a nephew, Jack Ray; and great nephew, Bryce Daniel Maxey. The family wishes to express a special thank you to Pat, Bonnie and the wonderful staff at Heartland for their tender loving care. Sylvia was a devout Christian and a member of Twenty-Sixth Street Baptist Church and Choir for many years. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Saturday, July 11, 2009, at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington, with Pastor Timothy Arthur and Rev. Harry Scarberry officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Park on East Pea Ridge Road, Huntington. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Gideons International. Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, July 10, 2009, at Chapman's Mortuary.
