Lyman E. "Gene" Elkins
(January 31, 1921 - October 19, 2009)


Mr. Lyman Eugene (L.E. Gene) Elkins, 88, of Huntington, WV, was promoted to Heaven on Saturday, October 10, 2009. He was born January 31, 1921, the son of the late Lyman R. and Artie Mae Elkins. Surviving is his beloved wife of 58 years, Hazel S. Elkins. Other survivors include his sister-in-law, Tena Perinoni, niece Sally and husband Tom Pettit; great nieces, Sarah and husband Jesse Eppard, Katy, Betsy and Becky Pettit; great grand nieces Emily and Caroline Eppard, and great grand nephew, Will Eppard; a niece, Sarah Hanks of Pulaski, VA and two nephews, George T. and Ginger Harris, Richlands, VA and John A. and Margie Stacy, Nashville, TN, also numerous great nieces and nephews and many friends. Gene was an active member of Harmony United Methodist Church and Gideons International, where for many years he served as Bible Secretary. He loved being of service to his Lord. He retired in 1981 from the C & O Railroad, after working for 37 years. He served his country duriing WWII, serving in the U.S. Army, earning many awards including the Purple Heart. He had attended a reunion with the men he served with during WWII in September of this year. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at the Harmony United Methodist Church, 3800 Riverside Drive, Huntington, WV, 25705, with Rev. Phil Wilson and Rev. Ed Hood officiating. Burial will be in Greenbottom Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from noon until 2:00 PM Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be sent to Harmony United Methodist Church. Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington, is in charge of arrangements.
