Lee E. Nelson
(November 1, 1912 - January 16, 2010)



Lee E. Nelson, 97, of Huntington, WV, died Saturday, January 16, 2010, at the Wyngate Senior Living Community, Barboursville. Funeral service will be conducted 10:00 AM Thursday, January 21, 2010, in the Mausoleum at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Huntington with the Rev. Karen F. Humbert officiating. Burial will follow. Lee was born November 1, 1912 in Huntington, WV a son of the late Thomas and Elizabeth Gilmore Nelson. He retired from C & P Telephone Co with 37 years of service; he was a U.S. army veteran spending four years in WWII with 28 months in the South Pacific and 1 years in the Korean Conflict, a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the U.S. Army Reserves with 22 years of service. He was a member of the B.P.O.E. # 313, Club of Telephone Pioneers, American Legion Post 16, a Kentucky Colonel and Reserve Officers Association. He was an ardent hunter and fisherman. His first wife, Mary Elizabeth Nelson, one brother Glenn Nelson and one grandson, Timothy Andrew Rawlings, preceded him in death. Survivors include: his wife Betty Haden Nelson; one son Steve Nelson and wife Patti of Barboursville; one daughter, Susan Warwick and husband Glenn of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; one stepdaughter, Betty Sue Kinzer and husband John of Huntington; two stepsons, David E. Haden and wife Carolyn of Charleston, WV, and Retired Colonel Robert H. "Hank" Haden and wife Eileen of Lake Gaston, NC; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the cemetery after 9:30 AM Thursday. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of ones choice. Chapman's Mortuary Huntington is in charge of arrangements.
