Jimmy Garland Maphet, 78, of Ashland, KY, husband of Sheila Trimble Maphet, died Monday October 8, 2012 in Kings Daughter’s Medical Center. Jimmy was born February 26, 1934 in Cincinnati, OH a son of the late Andrew Jackson & Lillian Harrell Maphet. He was a retired supervisor from Ashland Oil, served as Captain in the Army; (The Big Red Unit) was his unit. He was a poet and an artist. He was very active contributor to society and his community. He donated money to The Ashland Performing Arts Center, was an active member and served on the Board of the Ashland Arts Center and a member of the Unitarian Fellowship Church of Huntington. Additional survivors include, three grandchildren, Jessie Maphet of Sarasota, FL, John Hickman of Ashland, KY and Chris Maphet & wife Janie of Cincinnati, OH, two great grandchildren, Alexander Maphet & Zachary Kinburg. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Saint Jude Children’s Hospital. Memorial service will be 4:00 until 7:00 PM Saturday October 20, 2012 at the Unitarian Fellowship of Huntington 619 6th Ave. Covered dish is optional. Chapman’s Mortuary Huntington is assisting the family.
