Obituary

Lou Akers left this world on Thursday, December 1, 2016, after a long illness. Lou was a fighter and didn't give up easily. He had the biggest heart and made an impact on everyone he met. He was fair and giving and loved life, especially his life in Huntington. Born Louis Joseph Akers, Jr. in Dundalk, MD, Lou worked in the financial industry in Baltimore and was CEO of Ferris, Baker Watts brokerage firm for many years. He moved to Huntington, met Patty and made Huntington his home. Lou was the Executive Director of the Water Quality Board for the City of Huntington, and was previously Director of the Huntington Sanitary Board. He loved his job and loved the people he worked with. Each and every one was like family and supported him throughout the entire journey of his illness. Lou leaves behind his wife Patty Bostic-Akers, a son Gregory Joseph Akers, and two sisters Andrea Akers and Candace Herbster both of Maryland. He was preceded in death by his parents Louis Joseph Sr. and Marie Klasen Akers of Maryland. A celebration of Lou's life will be held Thursday, December 8, at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church where Lou was an active member before his illness. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, 3100 Staunton Rd., Huntington, WV 25702, or to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Transplant Center, 410 West 10th Avenue, Columbus, OH 43210. Chapman's Mortuary is assisting the family.
