Furlong
(November 26, 1925 - December 30, 2009)
John V. Furlong, 84, of Barboursville, WV, passed
away Wednesday, December 30, 2009, in the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House.
Funeral service will be conducted 12:30 PM Saturday, January 2, 2010, at
Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington, with Ministers Scott & Alan Meneely
officiating. Burial will be in Woodmere Memorial Park. Veterans Honor Guard
Post 16 will conduct Military Graveside Rites. John was born November 26,
1925 in Philadelphia, Pa, a son of the late Edward & Florence Knaus Furlong.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during WWII, receiving a Purple Heart and
a Bronze Star. He retired from the V.A. Medical Center and was a 62-year
member of the Sixth Ave. Church of Christ where he served as elder and
treasurer. He loved woodworking and was very supportive of the Huntington
Animal Shelter. He was a member of American Legion Post #16. His wife,
Aileta F. Furlong, preceded him in death. Survivors include one sister Gerry
Ellis of Lakeland, FL; one cousin, Vince Furlong of Philadelphia; five
nieces; two nephews; and nine grand nieces and nephews. Friends may call
from 11:30 AM until 12:30 PM Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of
flowers donations may be made to the Sixth Avenue Church of Christ (530 20th
St. Huntington, WV 25701) or the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House.
